Dance Anyway

When I look at birds flying, I notice how in flow they are. Syncing to their own rhythms and muses. How plants bend towards the sun when they need nourishment. Bees pollinating buds of flowers and buzzing along. The flow in the midst of the chaos. How they dance in their own way throughout the madness of the day.

Anything can happen on this Earth. Chaos comes into our lives sometimes, bringing with it confusion and a sense of disorientation. Yet, it is in these divinely sent moments that we have choices to make.

When you decide to dance anyway, doors will be opened for you that you previously could only imagine before.

Some moments in life require us to dance anyway and follow flow. The beauty of the unknown is that it just requires you to dance and that’s it. Sometimes it’s okay to be a fool, it’s okay to go on that new and unexpected adventure. Using the fool in times of chaos is truly a delight – to be boundless and free.

My uncle told me of how he would dance alongside the onstage performances of his sisters’ dance recitals when he was younger. George had ankle braces back then because he used to have knock knees. He would stand in the aisle, relying on his braces for support, and march for march, beat for beat: dance. The effortless courage that took. I loved hearing about that. Picturing him dancing in those aisles of my mom and aunt’s performances was heartwarming. That’s true innocence, true disregard of the world’s perception. We related this to the importance of calling back that childlike innocence now. Calling back the epitome of courage. Every time I remember to just dance I picture a southern boy in ankle braces dancing amongst a sea of faces, looking onward in confusion. It wasn’t for them to understand anyway. That joy he felt as a little boy is priceless.

And even so, sometimes dancing anyway means allowing your spirit guides to remove you from situations you shouldn’t be in. You can’t settle where you’re not supposed to be. You cannot thrive in stagnation and yet sometimes we can be too stubborn to try something new. And honesty I understand. I’m a Taurus – I can be a bit stubborn! But thankfully, we are never alone and always have guidance available to us. And a lot of supposed losses are actually freedom. Freedom to go where you can be nourished and supported.

In the midst of chaos, finding my peace and own oasis of joy has been a most cherished gift. Doing what brings me harmony, resorting to a childlike sense of wonder. And what better reminder to do this than my Uncle George’s advice: “Dance anyways girl. Go for it. Dance in the middle of that aisle.” So here I am, having decided to eternally dance. Doing little twirls and somersaults. Even shimmying and throwing my head back in laughter. And here I will be, dancing some more, with my pivot shoes on and clear vision leading the way.

And the more I ponder it, the more I would not mind dancing anyway for the rest of my days.
